  Note: My experience took place solely at the Calimesa location. I have not dealt with either the Beaumont or Yucaipa offices. I am going to preface this by making sure I state that I am an actual patient, and I am not a paid reviewer (by anyone, ever). I would also like to say I wish I could write two different reviews; one for Dr. VanGuilder & staff, and one for the lab (more on that below). My experience at the Calimesa office was quite pleasant. The staff there are very friendly and helpful, and Dr. VanGuilder was very professional. She answered all the questions I had, and even took extra time to check my new prescription against my old one to see how my eyes had changed. I arrived about 10 minutes early to my appointment and got in about 15 minutes after my scheduled time. This didn't make a lot of sense, as it was not busy at all, but I understand that there is prep work that must be done, especially for a new patient like myself. The eye exam and frame selection process was very painless with minimal paperwork. I was shown a detailed invoice of everything I was paying for before they processed any payment from me. I was not pressured into anything I didn't want, and every staff member understood the need to stay under my budget. Paid for my glasses and was on my way. I was told it would be 7-10 days to get my new glasses. I let 12 days go by without a call before I decided to check on my glasses. The lab had apparently messed up a coating on one of the lenses and had to start over. No big deal. I was told they would ship the next day, and arrive the day after that (so, they would arrive 2 days later). After another week went by, I called again. They hadn't shipped yet, but were scheduled to ship the next day to the Yucaipa office. I waited two more days and called the Yucaipa office. They told me they hadn't received them yet. They ended up getting them two days later, and it took another two days to get them to the Calimesa office. All in all, I waited around a month for my glasses. Now, this is where I believe most of the negative reviews are from. I want to really point out: THE DELAY ON THE GLASSES WAS NOT THE OFFICE'S FAULT, THE STAFF'S FAULT, OR DR. VANGUILDER'S FAULT. This was solely a lab issue, and I do agree that it shouldn't take 3+ weeks for a lab to crank out glasses. However, all of the negative experiences people have had with Dr. VanGuilder are worlds away from the experience I had with her. The fact that she has taken the time to respond to most of the negative feedback says a lot. My personal recommendation - if you're in a hurry for a pair of glasses, you may want to go somewhere else. However, if you go here and your glasses get delayed for any reason, keep in mind that it is not Dr. VanGuilder's fault, nor her staff's fault. Sometimes things go wrong at the labs, and even though it's frustrating, it's not fair to blame the people that have no control over it. Also, if you're a "needy" person and want people to drop everything they're doing the moment you walk in the door, I'd recommend finding a smaller clinic with a smaller client base (and also checking your attitude). I have only had my glasses for a couple weeks now, so I can't speak to the quality of the work done on the lenses yet, but the frames are holding up fine, and the Calimesa staff have been great with adjusting them for me. I won't need a new pair for at least 3 years, so I can't say if I will go back to Focus Vision. However, I wanted to at least share my (positive) experience. If you aren't bothered by possible lab delays, I do recommend the Calimesa office.
